Three men in a red bus. For 40 years, Franz Xaver Gernstl traveled the world far and wide with two friends – in search of good stories and extraordinary people. People in the countryside and in the city, on the margins of society and in the fast lane. How do they live? What drives them? What do they dream of? This became the basis for the BR cult series Gernstl unterwegs. In over 1,000 conversations, people talk about their lives. Openly, directly, and sometimes quite offbeat.

‎‎

But how do such encounters come about? Can you plan for chance? Or does it all come down to: just got lucky?! Gernstl shares the best stories, recounts his wild years “on the road,” and describes what he found without ever having sought it: an adventurous life with his best friends and a glimpse of what happiness means.

‎‎

The reading also includes a screening of GERNSTLS REISEN – AUF DER SUCHE NACH IRGENDWAS.

About

Since 1983 Franz Gernstl, HP Fischer and Stefan Ravasz have been traveling through the history of the world in search of happiness or something else. They don't really know what they're looking for, they just find it - above all, people: Everyday philosophers and bon vivants, loners and other weird types. This documentary reveals how they go about it, with a look behind the scenes.
